Since the 19th century, different institutions have served in the field of Turkish maritime transport. Although these institutions were tried to be renewed with various reforms, the desired success could not be achieved. After the National Struggle, many administrative structures were made and legal regulations were made in order to revitalize the maritime transport sector. In the Republican Era, important steps were taken to make sea vehicles capable of meeting the needs. As a result of the liberal policies of the Democrat Party, state-owned maritime transport enterprises and shipyards were gathered under the umbrella of Denizcilik Bankası Türk Anonim Ortaklığı, which was established in 1952. By offering 49% of its shares to the public, it was aimed to save the Turkish maritime industry from its cumbersome and underdeveloped structure and turn it into a profitable institution. With the laws enacted in this period, maritime transportation dependent on the private sector was also financially relieved. The Democratic Party aimed to develop and modernize the maritime transport sector by carrying out statist and liberal economic policies together.
