With the establishment of the Turkish Republic on October 29, 1923, Atatürk made a series of reforms to raise the Turkish people to the level of contemporary civilization. With the innovation movements, great importance was given to the Turkish National Culture, which determines the social level of the Turkish society, and its main directive, the language. Accordingly, the Turkish Language Congress, organized under the leadership of Atatürk, played an important role for the work to be carried out in the field of language and history. Particularly, Turkish language and history are frequently emphasized in order to create a national state consciousness. The Sun Language Theory has been an important tool to instilling the mentioned ideas. The papers pre- sented on the subject aroused great repercussions in the academic circles of that period and con- tinued to be discussed in the following years. The emergence process and basic principles of the Sun Language Theory will be evaluated in this study. The papers presented on this subject in the Turkish Language Congress organized under the leadership of Atatürk will be emphasized again.
